Background: Although virtual training has been considered an educational emergency during the coronavirus crisis, it is still discussed in universities as a capacity. Student learning is the concern of all professors. Self-direction is an efficiency indicator in electronic learning (e-learning) widely used in effective educational systems.Objectives: The present study aimed to determine self-directed learning outcomes and facilitators in virtual course students of medical education.Methods: The statistical population of this descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study included the graduate of virtual medical education in the universities of medical sciences in Tehran, Iran, in the academic year 2019. The research instrument was the Persian version of the Self-Directed Learning Readiness Scale. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software (version 16), the indicators of descriptive statistics (e.g., mean, frequency, percentage, and standard deviation), linear regression, and Pearson correlation coefficient.Results: Out of 201 individuals, 46 (22.9%) and 155 (77.1%) students were male and female, respectively. The mean age of the students was 39.93±8.25 years. The mean values of the scores of self-directed learning outcomes and facilitators were 71.8±9.4 (out of 95) and 70.4±10.6 (out of 125), respectively. There was a direct and significant relationship between self-directed learning outcomes and facilitators (P<0.001); accordingly, with the increase of the score of facilitators, the score of self-directed learning also increased. Additionally, the variables of outcomes and facilitators had significant relationships with academic achievement (P<0.001).Conclusion: According to the study results, by increasing self-directed learning facilitators, the outcomes of this type of learning, especially students’ academic achievement, increased. Therefore, it is recommended to increase students’ participation and consolidate self-directed activities. Furthermore, by the application of technology and program appropriate to the subject of the course, professors in virtual training should strengthen and nurture students’ self-direction skills and guide them to do various assignments and activities related to their lesson objectives.

Background & Objective: Lack of conformity to study principles results in reduced level of human productivity and efficiency demoralization and loss of selfesteem boredom and disenchantment Effective studying like any other activity requires special skills The aim of this study was to compare the effect of direct and distant training of study skills on study methods and satisfaction of undergraduate students of Kerman University of Medical Sciences Iran Methods: This interventional study was conducted on 80 new entrants to the undergraduate program of Kerman University of Medical Sciences in 2013 Students completed a questionnaire before and after the training The data were analyzed using independent and paired ttests in SPSS software Data were expressed as central and distribution indicators and descriptive tables Results: The mean scores of study skills and satisfaction were significantly different in both elearning and workshop groups after the intervention (P < 0001) The elearning group achieved higher scores compared to the workshop group Furthermore the subcategories of study skills were significantly increased in the elearning group compared with the workshop group after the intervention (P < 0001) Conclusion: Although both methods improved the students study skills the results revealed that elearning had a more significant effect on their skills The results of this study also showed the positive effects of participating in a study skills training program on the students satisfaction It is therefore suggested that due to students interest in electronic tools elearning be included in the training of new entrants to the undergraduate students programs

Background & Objective: Learning environment should be opportunities for positive change in students attitude to encourage them and create more interest leading to sustainable learning To make constructive changes having information on the current status and about students attitudes toward their discipline is essential This study was designed to assess the medical and dental students attitude toward their study field (learning environment practicability attraction social rank and future employment) before and after experiencing clinical practice in Kerman University of Medical Sciences Iran Methods: This crosssectional analytic study was conducted in 2012 The study population were 95 medical and dental students of Kerman University of Medical Sciences as census of students A researchermade questionnaire was designed consisting 33 questions in five areas of the components of medical education and health care (education environment applicability of the course the attractiveness of the field career and social status) Data were analyzed using paired t ANOVA and MannWhitney U tests via SPSS software Results: There were significant differences between the medical students attitude toward educational environment and practicability of the field before and after experiencing clinical practice but there was no significant difference between their attitude toward attraction future employment and social rank of the field On the other hand there were significant differences between dental students attitudes toward educational environment and future employment before and after experiencing clinical practice but there was no significant difference between their attitudes toward practicability attraction and social rank of the field In addition there was no significant difference between the two groups based on gender and age Conclusion: The results showed significant differences only in three educational components between two groups of students According to obtained data short and longtime plans could be designed for increasing the efficiency of education improving educational structure and obtaining welfare and economical possibilities for students

Background & Objective: In order to achieve more success in the Bachelor of Science in the discipline of nursing education in Iran and identify its weaknesses and strengths comparative studies and utilization of successful universities strategies and experiences are necessary The present research compares the curricula of undergraduate nursing education in Iran and 8 selected universities from America Europe Australia and Asia The universities were compared in terms of student selection methods mission and objective general structure program length educational content teaching and learning methods educational strategies role of graduates and evaluation methodologies Methods: This was a descriptivecomparative study In the present study 8 renowned and innovative nursing schools were selected through purposeful sampling method The important components and indices of nursing curricula of the 8 nursing schools in America Europe Australia and Asia were analyzed Then each studied item was compared between the selected nursing schools and nursing schools of Iran Practical suggestions were made to improve the quality of the nursing curriculum in Iran in terms of improvement of each studied item The research model used in this study was the Beredy model that identified the 4 stages of description interpretation proximity and comparison in comparative studies Results: The general objectives and educational contents in all curricula of the examined nursing schools were to some extent similar However the establishment and development of the contents and the method extent and type of addressing them were different These differences created different contents Moreover despite the many similarities in training and evaluation techniques many differences depending on the level and purpose of the program were observed Conclusion: It seems that although the nursing curriculum in Iran does not hold a dissatisfactory position in comparison with the other studied curricula in order to resolve the flaws items like goals selection student selection methods research teaching and evaluation (theory and performance) methodologies need to be reviewed and revised

Background & Objective: The concept of active engagement or academic engagement is a certain understanding of the relationship between students and the university The university is an environment that provides learning opportunities that will lead to student learning The nature and level of learning depends on the students way of using their environmental resources Positive engagement and an interactive supportive academic environment are essential elements in success in the learning process On the other hand isolation alienation and passiveness of students results in their academic failure The aim of the present study was to investigate academic engagement of medical students of Kerman University of Medical Sciences Iran in 20112012 In this study 2 domains of academic engagement were investigated (active and participatory learning and level of academic challenge) Methods: In this descriptiveanalytical crosssectional study all medical students of Kerman University of Medical Sciences were recruited using stratified random sampling method The data collection tool was the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) Results: In this study 211 medical students from different academic years with the average age of 226 ± 31 were enrolled The mean active engagement score of the students was 9864 ± 3233 Active and cooperative learning was at a significant level based on all demographic variables except employment The active and cooperative learning of male students differed significantly from that of female students married students from single students different academic years and native from local students Moreover students who were members of one of the academic centers had significantly higher active and participatory learning scores Mean active and participatory learning and level of academic challenge were 174 ± 56 and 217 ± 71 respectively Both domains were reported as unsatisfactory among students Conclusion: The results showed the unsatisfactory academic engagment status of the students of the Kerman University of Medical Sciences Thus it is hoped that with future planning to use more modern teaching methods which have a higher level of academic challenges and active and collaborative learning and by the appropriate support of the university university staff and faculty members we are able to take steps toward the improvement of academic engagement and thereby student success

Background & Objective: Students are faced with many problems that can be associated with irreversible damage and devastating effects Psychological pressure is caused by changes in living conditions separation from family economic and financial problems marriage employment while studying and consequently educational problems including academic failure unnecessary transfer and changing of field of study and lack of scientific competence and dropping out reduced performance poor educational achievement All these show that the authorities have a grave responsibility in recognizing controlling and preventing educational damages Thus the aim of the present study was to identify students academic problems and the role of lecturers and counselors in resolving these problems from the view of students of Kerman University of Medical Sciences Kerman Iran Methods: The present research is a crosssectional study The data collection tool was a questionnaire consisting of 4 parts demographic characteristics the opinion of students about the counseling duties of lecturers students problems and the role of lecturers in reducing problems Validity and reliability of the questionnaire were determined using content validity and testretest (r = 078) respectively Data analysis was performed using SPSS software Results: Our findings indicate that of the 500 students studied 351 were female (702%) and 149 (298%) male The average age of the participants was 217 years The mean and standard deviation of the students psychoemotional problems was 144 ± 629 educational problems 9711 ± 1151 social and communicative problems 986 ± 796 and financial and economic problems 234 ± 61 Based on the view of students the mean and standard deviation of the role of counselors in the mentioned academic problems was 982 ± 3346 Conclusion: The majority of the problems expressed by students were related to social and educational issues which can cause problems for the students in respect to their educational and professional goals As a result of these problems students may require guidance and counseling services Students inadequate knowledge of consulting services may be the cause of their lack of use of these services for solving their problems With careful planning and updating and expanding counselors activities and knowledge more effective steps can be taken to reduce educational problems and promote the academic status of students

Background & Objective: The lack of critical thinking among students indicate that nursing education in achieving professional did not success and nurses foster thoughtful and it still remains a challenge in the world Accordingly in recent years learning styles new and creative methods of facilitating critical thinking such as studentcenter teaching methods have been given more attention The association between learning styles of postgraduate students with critical thinking in School of Nursing and Midwifery Kerman University of Medical Sciences was designed Methods: This was a descriptiveanalytical correlation with the study of 90 nursing students at the graduate level (Masters and PhD) university in 2011 and 2012 Instruments were two questionnaires California critical thinking form B and Kolb learning styles Results: There was a significant correlation between the critical thinking and teaching approaches (P < 0001) so that active teaching approaches students (studentcentered) were better trained in critical thinking Between learning styles and critical thinking were also correlated so that the converging style (1304 ± 267) and most accommodating style (382 ± 133) have the lowest average critical thinking Conclusion: The results of the studies one on revising instructional strategies current use of active teaching strategies to improve critical thinking and attention to individual learning styles are emphasized
