Background & Objective: Evidencebased care is using evidence obtained from research into clinical practice based on the patients condition and type of illness This study aimed to investigate the barriers to implementation of evidencebased nursing care based on instructors and educators opinion Methods: This was a crosssectional study that was performed with the participation of 70 faculty members and nonfaculty members of School of Nursing of Rafsanjan and Kerman Iran with different educational levels Inclusion criteria were having at least bachelors degree and twoyears work experience Data was analyzed using SPSS and descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage) Results: Women and men instructors comprised 686% and 314% of respondents respectively Most of them (443%) were 35 to 44 years of age In their opinion the major obstacles to implementation of evidencebased nursing in the education domain was lack trained staff to use the findings from research in evidencebased care with 943% In the management domain lack of knowledge of nursing managers regarding the importance of evidencebased nursing care with 857% and in the individual domain lack of adequate skills for the implementation of evidencebased practice and lack of nurses knowledge of evidencebased practice with 857% were also mentioned by participants as obstacles Conclusion: The main barriers in the application of evidencebased nursing can be noted in the domains of education and management Therefore a big step forward in this regard will be providing access to the resources and facilities library and continuing education for nursing staff and updating their information in the field of evidencebased care which requires cooperation of the managers at different levels of planning

Background & Objective: The morning report is a common useful and valuable clinical training method in the world This method when applied on the basis of evidencebased medicine (EBM) plays a more effective role in learning among medical students This study aimed to determine the impact of EBM on medical students skill in presentation of morning report and its quality Methods: This study was operations research and 80 students were selected through simple random sampling from among all medical practitioners of Shahroud University of Medical Sciences (Iran) The selected participants took part in the 3day workshop of introduction to EBM with emphasis on morning report presentation Data were gathered using a researchermade questionnaire which was validated by experts and its reliability was approved using Cronbachs alpha coefficient Questionnaires were distributed among the students before and after the study and the results were compared Data were analyzed using chisquared test and ttest in SPSS software Results: Of the 80 interns participating in the study 22 individuals (275%) were men and the rest were female Average time of internship training for the interns was 105 ± 65 months (range: 316 months) The mean quality score of morning increased significantly from 903 ± 256 at baseline to 1328 ± 303 (P = 0001) Significant changes were observed in broadband facilities computer facilities and the emergence of new and accessible scientific resources the average number of interns participating in the meeting average attendance of those on duty the night before regular attendance of teachers regular participation of interns the regular and timely attendance of those managing the discussion active participation of interns in discussions role of teachers in the meeting the selection of patients the method of discussion about different parts of the patient followup of previously introduced patients and the positive role of group administrators before and after EBM training Conclusion: Morning reports presentation based on EBM during internship at this University was desirable which can effectively result in the improvement of the quality of education regular and more beneficial attendance of teachers especially onduty specialists and more active participation of students and thus improve care training and update clinical teachers information However due to students and professors lack of knowledge regarding EBM holding training courses on this topic seems necessary

Background & Objective: In recent years evidencebased care has been recognized as one of the essential competencies of nursing graduates Since senior nursing students are on the verge of graduating studying factors affective on the use of evidencebased care in their professional future and emphasis on educational programming to strengthen this competency are necessary This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge and performance of senior nursing students regarding evidencebased care Methods: The present descriptiveanalytical study was conducted on 43 senior nursing students of Kerman University of Medical Sciences Iran in 2015 Data were collected using the Persian version of the Nursing Students Knowledge and Performance about EvidenceBased Practice Questionnaire Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (percentage mean and standard deviation) and analytical statistics (Pearson correlation coefficient ANOVA) in SPSS software Results: The results indicated that the majority of students (535%) had sufficient knowledge of evidencebased care The total mean score of knowledge of the students was 1225 ± 334 while the majority of students (512%) showed poor performance The total mean score of performance of the students was 1728 ± 785 There was a direct correlation between knowledge and performance of the students (r < 056) Conclusion: There is gap between the knowledge and performance of students regarding evidencebased care; despite their sufficient knowledge on evidencebased care their performance was poor It is suggested that a suitable milieu for promoting evidencebased care is provided and theory and practice are linked through suitable planning a review of the curriculum and creating an appropriate educational environment for nursing students as future nurses

Background & Objective: Nearly two decades have passed since the establishment of evidencebased medicine (EBM) EBM is of great importance due to its ability to fill the information gap between medical research and clinical practice The aim of the present study was to evaluate the existing evidence of the application of EBM in published Iranian educational papers Methods: This is a systematic review of Iranian papers published in both Iranian and international journals The results were reviewed by two researchers separately to assess the inclusion and exclusion criteria and evaluate the level of evidence We used the Best Evidence Medical Education (BEME) guideline for conducting the systematic review and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and MetaAnalyses (PRISMA) flowchart to present the selection process In addition the Medical Education Research Quality Index (MERSQI) was used for the evaluation of the quality of the studies Results: EBM was used in 11 fields which can be categorized as the 4 clinical educational research and policymaking groups The educational group consisted of 3 domains of holding a journal club case discussions and teaching and learning Only 6 studies were found to report the effect of education on the application of evidencebased medicine The evaluation of their quality showed average quality Conclusion: Although there are a limited number of studies on the effect of education on EBM application they present satisfactory and average quality evidence Despite the existence of various educational courses on EBM in Iran no high level and high quality evidence exists to show the effectiveness of education on knowledge attitude practice and behavior of healthcare professionals especially in the longterm Thus the designing and performing of high quality research is required in this field

Background & Objective: Clinical efficacy plays an important role in clinical knowledge and skill application One of the ways to increase selfefficacy is using experience and results of clinical research The aim of the present study was to evaluate the impact of evidencebased education on nursing students selfefficacy Methods: This experimental study was conducted on 48 nursing students in their 3rd semester in Urmia University of Medical Sciences Iran The study subjects were selected using convenience sampling and randomly divided into 2 groups of intervention and control (n = 24) Considering the students training in the orthopedic ward the intervention group participants were divided into 8 groups Students in the intervention group were trained in evidencebased education in 2 sessions each lasting 2 hours Selfefficacy was evaluated before and after training in the control and intervention groups using the generalized selfefficacy (GSE) scale Data were analyzed using SPSS software and chisquare ttest MannWhitney test and Wilcoxon test Data were analyzed using confidence interval of 95 ± 2% Results: Of the students 333% were female and 667% male MannWhitney test showed the selfefficacy of the intervention group students to be significantly higher than control group students (P < 0001) No significant differences were observed in the control group Conclusion: Evidencebased education causes greater improvement in selfefficacy in comparison to conventional methods Therefore the use of this method is recommended in clinical education

Background & Objective: Evidencebased medicine (EBM) is a systematic review process for evaluating and using results of the best clinical trials for diagnosis and treatment of diseases It must comply with the values and specific circumstances of each patient in need of treatment Since very few studies have examined the competence of different groups of medical professionals in this area this study was conducted to assess the competence of residents in EBM Methods: This descriptive crosssectional study was conducted on 90 residents from 4 main clinical departments in Kerman University of Medical Sciences Iran in 2013 The data collection tool was the Berlin Standard Questionnaire The samples were selected using census method and data were analyzed using SPSS software Results: Among the participants in the study 422% were male and 578% female with the mean age of 3117 ± 332 years Based on the results of the study residents had little competence in the field of evidencebased medicine their scores ranged from 0 to 8 and their mean score was 254 ± 143 of a total of 15 Conclusion: Considering the mean score and low competence of residents in evidencebased medicine shortterm programs by the relevant departments seem essential to rapidly promote knowledge of evidencebased medicine

Background & Objective: Interns are one of the most important groups among medical student and thus must learn to use evidencebased medicine (EBM) The present study was performed with the aim of evaluating the knowledge of medical interns of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences (MUMS) Iran on evidencebased medicine in 2013 Methods: In this descriptive crosssectional study 70 medical interns were selected using convenience sampling method Data were gathered using a standard questionnaire and analyzed by descriptive statistics and SPSS software Results: The information source for clinical decision making in 657% of interns were their textbooks among which 629% used textbooks because of their accessibility In addition 957% of interns believed EBM to be useful in improving patient care However only 371% of them knew the meaning of EBM and 957% were not familiar with EBM internet sites Conclusion: Integrated planning is necessary in order to include EBM courses in medical curriculum and to teach the use of internet and correct forms of searching

Background & Objective: Most experts of Iranian traditional medicine believe that it is absolutely necessary and inevitable to update the field to utilize evidence in education of Iranian traditional medicine students and treatment of its patients In this regard this study attempted to evaluate utilization of evidencebased medicine (EBM) in the curriculum of School of Iranian Traditional Medicine Methods: In this qualitative study semistructured individual and facetoface interviews were done to collect Iranian traditional medicine experts point of views in regard to EBM Content analysis was done to analyze the data Results: The study findings were classified in two major categories including EBM in the curriculum of Iranian traditional medicine and EBM application in Iranian School of Traditional Medicine The subcategories were also mentioned Conclusion: Although some sections of PhD program in traditional medicine are related to evidence based medicine it is not satisfying yet Therefore the concept and principles of evidence based practice should be included in theory and practice

Background & Objective: Evidencebased medicine (EBM) is defined as the application of the best research evidence in making decisions in the management of the individual patient EBM due to its importance has obtained great consideration in recent years This study was designed to determine the knowledge of Medical residents in Shiraz School of Medicine about EBM and the application of it by them Methods : In this crosssectional study performed in 2006 71 residents of Shiraz School of Medicine were studied by using a questionnaire The validity of the questionnaire was approved by getting experts opinions and internal consistency reliability was determined in a pilot study Results : In whole 939% of residents had positive attitudes toward EBM but 803% of them reported that they had not passed any formal education in this field From all participants 85% have access to internet but more than 70% of them were not aware of EBM resources and 609% of them mentioned that for the management of their patients during the previous year they had used Medline or other search engines less than 10 times Conclusion : According to the obtained results in spite of positive attitude toward EBM and internet access residents have not yet integrated the use of EBM with their professional practice widely and also they are not familiar with specific EBM Sites This may be due to the lack of education in the field of EBM Because of the important role of Medical residents in making clinical decisions and also their role in training Medical students inclusion of EBM training courses in their educational program is highly necessary
