Background The lack of clinical competence in nurses leads to problems in providing nursing services. Studies indicate that nurses lacking the required skills can endanger the public health in medical centers. Critical thinking is a factor that can affect nurses' clinical competence. Objectives The current study aimed at investigating the relationship between critical thinking and clinical competence in nurses. Methods The current descriptive-analytical and cross sectional study was conducted on 120 nurses selected by random sampling method. Data collection tools included the California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory (CCTDI), as well as clinical competence and demographic information questionnaires. Data were analyzed with SPSS using Pearson correlation coefficient, linear regression, and -test. Results Pearson correlation test showed a positive correlation between the total scores of critical thinking and clinical competence. Based on the results of the linear regression analysis, the tendency toward critical thinking could predict 28.4% of the clinical competence. The nurses mean CCTDI scores were at the positive level and their mean clinical competence scores were at the average level. Conclusions According to the obtained results, nursing authorities can organize practical workshops on the development of critical thinking of clinical nurses as one of the most important and operational strategies to improve nursing clinical competence and, ultimately, move towards optimal care.

Background & Objective: The phenomenon of occupational stress is an inevitable part of professional life that has negative effects on different areas of life The purpose of this research was to identify the effects of PRECEDE modelbased training on reduction of nurses occupational stress Methods: The present study was a quasiexperimental study on nurses First subjects with a medium to high stress level were chosen Then the nurses of Iran and KhatamOlAnbia hospitals Tehran Iran were randomly assigned as intervention (n = 40) and control (n = 41) groups Data gathering tools included the Nursing Stress Scale (NSS) to determine nurses occupational stress and PRECEDE Model Structures Questionnaire to provide educational intervention Training was carried out in two 4hour sessions in two consecutive days Subjects were monitored for 3 months Statistical analysis was performed before and 1 month and 3 months after training using SPSS software Descriptive statistical tests independent ttest repeated measures oneway ANOVA and Pearson correlation were used Results: Mean NSS score of the intervention group reduced from 11280 ± 1746 to 9315 ± 2879 after the training Moreover after training the variables of reinforcement enabler and manner showed a significant increase in the intervention group compared to the control group (P < 005) Conclusion: Results showed that the PRECEDE model for stress management education was effective in the reduction of nurses stress level

Background & Objective: Factors effective in the continuous nursing education process may motivate nurses to participate in continuous education programs and thus result in knowledge promotion and improvement of skills in clinical practice and improvement of patient care However they may also prevent the achieving of these goals The precise recognition of these factors can result in constructive modification in continuous education programs and achieving of the goals of continuous education (improving patient care) Thus the aim of this study was to explain the factors influencing the successful implementation of the continuous nursing education process based on the experiences of nurses Methods: This qualitative study was conducted in 2012 The study subjects consisted of 28 individuals including nurses nursing supervisors and nursing managers The participants were selected using purposive sampling method Data were collected through unstructured interviews and field notes In addition data analysis was conducted using content analysis Results: From the data 3 main categories of advantage of compulsory education appropriate context for education and passive training were achieved The subcategories of these 3 categories consisted of compulsory training regulations and gaining advantage from training various sources of education suitable educational conditions educational willingness commitment to education and educational competency insufficient educational motivation of employees and managers inadequate educational qualification of nursing managers and passive educational supervision Conclusion: The identification of motivational factors and barriers of the continuous nursing education process based on nurses experiences can assist continuous education program policy makers and planners and nursing managers in the development of continuous education regulations based on effective programs and activities
