Background: Several research skills training courses are designed for both faculty members and students in educational and research institutions around the world.Objevtives: The current study aimed to design, implement, and evaluate a short-term research skills training course for faculty members of Kerman University of Medical Sciences.Methods: The current scholarship study was conducted in three stages, in 2017. The first stage comprised of a comparative study needs assessment, and course design. The training course was conducted with the participation of 30 faculty members and the teaching of 10 experienced professors. Participants were evaluated through practical work and homework. Instructors were evaluated by participants using survey forms. The course was evaluated through interviews with several participants and professors.Results: After eight months of research and holding 16 sessions (which each took between 2 to 4 hours), a course with three main modules was designed in 2017. Instructors used appropriate teaching methods, including interaction with participants, problem-solving, discussing, teamwork, and practicing at home. According to the results of the evaluation, the content of the course was appropriate for the research activities of participants. Besides, they believed that the instructors were among the strengths of the course.Conclusion: Certainly, increasing research skills of faculty members will lead to better guidance of assistants and qualitative improvement of research conducted by students.

Background and Objectives Empathy is one of the main skills in establishing a relationship between physicians and patients, and in order to increase this sense in students, it is necessary to introduce systematic and active programs into medical education. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of an educational intervention based on a health belief model on empowering the sense of empathy in medical students. Methods This was a quasi-experimental intervention conducted on two groups of 80 medical students involved in the internship program from Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 2015. Sampling was done randomly, and the subjects were randomly assigned to two groups, experimental and control. In the pre-test phase, all students completed a three-dimensional questionnaire including demographic data; a valid, reliable, and standardized Jefferson empathy questionnaire; and a section comprising questions designed by the researcher based on the constructs of the health belief model. Educational intervention was conducted only for the experimental group. To measure the results of educational intervention, the standardized patient questionnaires and the questionnaires completed by the students were used. Data were analyzed by means of frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation, ANOVA, and independent t-tests. Results Before the intervention, the two groups were similar and comparable in terms of demographic variables. After the intervention, there was a significant difference in the mean scores of perceived susceptibility (P < 0.001) and perceived severity (P = 0.002) between the two groups. The mean scores of perceived barriers and perceived benefits were significant among the two groups (P < 0.001). In addition, there were significant differences in the constructs of self-efficacy and cues to action three months after intervention (P < 0.001). Conclusions Training based on the health belief model was effective in empowering the sense of empathy among medical students. Training on empathy skills is recommended in order to increase patient satisfaction, promote health outcomes, and increase job satisfaction among physicians.

Background & Objective: Having employees with appropriate environmental behaviors and paying attention to their environmental knowledge and training is an important issue especially for industrial companies However the lack of prioritization of this important issue is one of the effective factors in the declining trend of environmental performance improvement of industrial companies Therefore the main purpose of the present study was to evaluate the environmental knowledge of physicians and nurses working at ParseJonoubi Company Iran and propose appropriate methods for their environmental training Methods: This research was a descriptive survey The statistical population included all physicians and nurses working at ParseJonoubi Company from among which 135 individuals were selected through random stratified sampling method and based on the Morgan Table The data collection tool was a researchermade environmental knowledge questionnaire based on the view of Frick et al Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics t independent t Friedman and chisquare tests Results: The knowledge of physicians and nurses in their own view regarding environmental systems was near average (31 and 33 respectively) Physicians and nurses knowledge on environmental action was near average (32) and below average (26) respectively Their knowledge of effectiveness was higher than average (physicians: 38 nurses: 43) Generally physicians estimated their environmental knowledge as slightly higher than average (36) and nurses as nearly average (32) Moreover there was a significant difference between the average of the three aforementioned dimensions of their environmental knowledge and the criterion average In addition there was a significant difference between the average of the three dimensions of environmental knowledge of physicians and nurses They also ranked environmental training methods differently Descriptive statistics and chisquared test showed that 76 subjects (61%) preferred the compulsive environmental training method and 48 subjects (39%) preferred the optional method Conclusion: The results of this research indicated that physicians and nurses working at ParseJonoubi Company felt the need for obtaining generally more environmental knowledge and specifically more actionrelated knowledge Thus it is suggested that the necessary requirements be provided for the environmental training of physicians and nurses working at this company according to each groups preferred training method

Background & Objective: Clinical training is of great importance in dentistry and has a direct impact on health of the society and treatment of patients The present study was conducted with the aim to obtain students point of views about facilities physical environment and training methods in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology School of Dentistry of Kerman University of Medical Sciences Iran Methods: This descriptive and crosssectional study was conducted on dental students who had had passed at least 1 unit of radiology course The participants were selected through census sampling method The data collection tool was a questionnaire consisting of 28 items in 5 scales and a section on demographic information The 5 scales consisted of evaluation of equipment quality of education in terms of diagnosis skills quality of education in terms of clinical skills practical education on patients and miscellaneous questions The questionnaire was designed by the researchers and its validity and reliability were evaluated Data were analyzed in SPSS software using ttest and analysis of variance (ANOVA) All Pvalues of less than 005 were considered significant Results: Of the 146 respondents 432% were men and 568% were women The mean score of the questionnaire was 7624 ± 1442 from a total of 140 Overall students satisfaction was at a moderate level Students satisfaction level with practical training in different techniques and bone and dental fractures diagnosis using radiography was low In the students view the quantity and quality of radiography devices was inadequate There was no statistically significant association between different inputs in terms of satisfaction and the students gender Conclusion: The students in the present study were relatively satisfied with radiology courses However in their opinion the quantity and quality of radiology devices were low Thus the repairing and updating of the radiography devices is recommended

Background & Objective: Considering the possible risks of performing endoscopy training on patients the use of a moulage prior to training seems reasonable The aim of this study was to evaluate residents rate of satisfaction with the training process and their ability in performing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy using gastric moulage prepared in Sina Hospital Iran Methods: This study was conducted on 20 residents of the endoscopy ward at Sina Hospital from September 2012 to September 2013 The endoscopy training program consisted of 3 steps of training with gastric moulage observation and training on human subjects The present educational development plan was evaluated through studying the 2 criteria of residents satisfaction and ability The satisfaction of residents with the endoscopy training course was evaluated by a selfreport questionnaire The residents ability in performing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy was evaluated by measuring the time of reaching the gastroesophageal junction and pyloric valve Results: The reliability and validity of the selfreport questionnaire were 64% (060089) and 78% (012095) respectively Over 90% of residents agreed with the items of the selfreport questionnaire The highest rate of agreement belonged to the item that interpreted the effect of this method on lowering residents anxiety in performing endoscopy (100%) The mean ± standard deviation of time of reaching the gastroesophageal junction and pyloric valve were 1620 ± 1354 and 2728 ± 1375 seconds respectively Conclusion: The results of this study showed that training residents using gastric moulage prepared in Sina Hospital was associated with residents satisfaction and the successful obtaining of the endoscopy skill

Background & Objective: One goal of education is to prepare students to deal with future issues and to be innovative Therefore the issues related to their learning be focused on and strengthened This study has been done to evaluate the effect of note taking skills training on the students academic self–efficacy Methods: This study was done using test method (Pretest posttest with control group) The statistical society included the undergraduate students of the School of Literature and Humanities of Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman Kerman Iran and the School of Public Health of Kerman University of Medical Sciences Iran (20092010) The study sample included 110 undergraduate students 55 in the experimental group (30 cases of literature and 25 cases of Public Health) and 55 in the control group (30 cases of literature and 25 cases of Public Health) The samples were selected by a singlestage cluster sampling method For data collection the MorganJinks Student Efficacy Scale (MJSES) was used The pretest was conducted in the two groups before the training The note taking skills training program was carried out in the experimental group in seven 2 hour sessions once a week The test groups were given the posttest after completing the course Ttest and the covariance analysis were used for data analysis Results: Findings showed that academic selfefficacy significantly increased after notetaking training in tested groups (P < 0005) Moreover the comparison of the two colleges showed that teaching these skills had a significant relationship with academic selfefficacy of students of the School of Health (P < 0005) but no significant relationship was found with the students of the School of Literature and Humanities (P > 0005) Conclusion: Due to the positive impact of notetaking skills training it seems that educational practitioners must invest more in the training of this skill and universitys professors as individuals influencing students should include notetaking skills in their academic courses to facilitate the teaching and learning process of these skills

Background : The importance of adequate training of Medical students in regard to the reading and interpretation of ECG is obvious and there are various studies about new methods of teaching ECG interpretation Objective : This study was aimed to determine the effect of teaching ECG interpretation in workshops and to compare it with current method of ECG training in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences Methods: This experimental study was done on two groups of students using pretest/ posttest design For this purpose 88 Medical students of an academic semester admitted to the university in the same year were selected and randomly divided into two groups of experimental group (taught in the workshop) and control group (taught by the current method) during Internal Medicine Ward Results: In whole 88 students participated in the study of whom 45 were in the experimental group and 43 ones in the control group In the experimental group mean (±SD) scores of the pretest (6 ± 11) and posttest test (17 ± 7) showed a significant difference (p=00001) Mean difference of pre and posttest scores in experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P=00001) Eighty five percent of students in the control group believed on the inefficacy of ECG training in the current educational system while 8380% of participants in the experimental group believed on the efficacy of ECG workshop on their learning Conclusion: Using new educational methods to improve the quality of educational system and to provide some new opportunities for students to learn by more initiative ways are highly necessary The obtained results showed clearly the efficacy of the new method comparing to the current one
