Background & Objective: Classrooms are suitable environment for transferring teachers experiences to students and gaining a better understanding of educational contents The students absence from theoretical classes has been one of the increasing and most important educational problems in medical universities in recent years This study was performed to determine factors effective on theoretical class attendance according to the point of view of dentistry students of Kerman University of Medical Sciences Iran in 2012 Methods: This crosssectional study was conducted on 150 students of the School of Dentistry Kerman University of Medical Sciences in 2012 Data collection tool was a questionnaire consisting of 2 parts: demographic characteristics and effective factors on theoretical class attendance questionnaire The questionnaire consisted of 20 questions scored based on a 5point Likert scale from very effective to ineffective and scores ranging from 0 to 80 Higher scores indicated more effective factors Data were analyzed by SPSS software through linear regression analysis Values of P < 005 were considered significant Results: Of the 150 participants 587% were female 833% were single and 613% were native students The mean age of the participants was 207 ± 17 years The mean score of the students was 5824 ± 959 A significant statistical relationship was observed between area of residence year of education and sex of students and mean score of questionnaire Among factors effective on theoretical class attendance the highest score belonged to appropriate teaching method teachers scientific proficiency students interest in the related topic However taking part in the class as a duty and active involvement of students had the lowest scores Conclusion: The findings of the present study showed that attendance in classes is affected by factors related to both teachers and students However appropriate teaching method teachers scientific proficiency and students interest in the related topic are the main factors which determine students attendance in the classes

Background & Objective: Absence of students from the classroom is one of the problems in the medical sciences in recent years Failure to attend classes disrupts the dynamic teachinglearning environment and causes this environment to become boring and unpleasant The aim of this study was to evaluate medical students views on factors affecting their presence in classrooms in Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences Iran in 2011 Methods: 288 students participated in this crosssectional study For data collection a questionnaire containing 28 questions in 5 Likert types was used Results: 215 female (747%) and 73 male students (253%) participated in this survey 79% of participants were single The highest score was in the area of teacher characteristics (013 ± 076) The next highest scores were the course features (018 ± 0755) physical environment (017 ± 0747) and the student characteristics (014 ± 0747) respectively Conclusion: It can be concluded from the findings of this study that the most important factor involved in the increased attendance in classroom is teacher characteristics such as the content presented in the classroom or the teacher s interesting speech Course features or class time are also important Given this factor we hope educators and planners improve the teaching and learning process through the increased presence in classrooms

Background & Objective: Classrooms are suitable places for transferring teachers experiences to the students and a better understanding of educational contents The students absence from theoretical classes has been one of the increasing and most important educational problems in medical universities in recent years This study was performed to determine the effective factors on theoretical class attendance according to nursing and midwifery students point of view in Kerman Razi School of Nursing and Midwifery Kerman University of Medical Sciences 2003 Methods: In this descriptive – analytic study 320 nursing and midwifery students were asked to fill in the researchermade questionnaires using a census method Totally 217 questionnaires were filled Results : Among all 217 students 879% were female and 757% were single Students mean age (± SD) was 224(±4) years Native students were 567% and only 146% were employed Among the effective factors on theoretical class attendance the highest mean scores belong to “teachers scientific dominance and orientation” (47) “students interest in the related topic” (467) “proper teaching method” (466) “importance of class attendance for better comprehension of the lesson” (458) and the lowest mean scores belong to “classrooms physical environment” (385) “not attending the class as a duty” (388) using audiovisual aids (395) Conclusion : The findings showed that attending classes is affected by factors related to both teachers and studentsBut the teachers scientific dominance and orientation teaching methodology and students involvement during class discussions are the main factors which determine students attendance in the classes
