Background & Objective: Procrastination is often described as a deliberate and irrational delay It is prevalent among students all over the world The aim of this was study to determine the prevalence of academic procrastination among the students of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences Iran in the academic year 20142015 and its correlation with academic performance Methods: This crosssectional study was carried on 150 medical nursing and midwifery students living in the dormitory of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences The subjects were selected through nonprobability sampling The data collection tool used was the Academic Procrastination Scale (APS) designed by Solomon and Rothblum The total reliability of the PAS and the reliability of its subscales were determined using Cronbachs alpha (range: 041078) The data were analyzed using chisquare test and multiple regression analysis Results: According to the results the prevalence of procrastination and its dimensions were 353% 280% 307% and 313% respectively The chisquare test also showed that procrastination in assignments articles and essays preparation and the total score of procrastination had a meaningful negative correlation with the academic performance of the nursing and obstetric students (P < 001) Furthermore the total score of procrastination and its dimensions had significant negative correlation with the academic performance of the whole sample (P < 001) The stepwise multiple regression reveald analysis that the total score of procrastination was the best factor for predicting academic performance Conclusion: The present study results indicated procrastination as the most common cause of reduction of academic performance among students Therefore complementary studies are needed to investigate the causes of academic procrastination

Background & Objective: Academic performance is the most important factor in student evaluation Selfesteem is related to selfsatisfaction and perfectionism is the setting of high goals in performance Achievement motivation is the willingness to gain success Because these variables can affect academic performance the aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between students perfectionism achievement motivation selfesteem and academic performance Methods: This was a correlationaldescriptive study Based on Morgan s table 97 students were randomly selected from all last year nursing students of Kerman Branch Islamic Azad University Due to being incomplete 7 questionnaires were excluded The data collection tools consisted of Ahvaz Perfectionism Scale (APS) Hermans Achievement Motivation ( HAMQ) Scale and the Coppersmith SelfEsteem Inventory (SEI) Total average scores of students were considered as academic performance Results: Results showed a positive significant correlation between academic performance and perfectionism achievement motivation and selfesteem (P < 005) Perfectionism achievement motivation and selfesteem predicted 31% variances in academic performance Nevertheless investigation of the liner correlation of these variables showed that only the correlation between achievement motivation and academic performance was meaningful Conclusion: It is seems that for the improvement of students academic achievement perfectionism selfesteem and especially achievement motivation must be taken into consideration

Background & Objective: Public speaking is a common academic activity Social phobia is associated with fear of public speaking which affects educational achievement However few researches have examined the prevalence of social phobia among university students in Iran The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of social phobia among students of Kerman University of Medical Sciences Iran and its impact on their academic performance Methods: Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN) Brief Version of Negative Evaluation Scale and a questionnaire assessing demographic characteristics and academic performance were applied to 700 randomly selected students from Kerman University of Medical Sciences Results: The prevalence of social phobia among the university students was 406% Grade Point Average (GPA) was not significantly different between the students with social phobia comparing to students without social phobia Yet students with social phobia believed that fear of speaking in public had negative effects on their academic performance In this study only 41% of students with social phobia have been visited by psychiatrists Conclusion: Preventive strategies are recommended to reduce the underrecognition and the adverse impact of social phobia on academic performance of university students

Background & Objective : Improvement in learners academic performance is one of the main goals of educational centers Academic performance is affected by a lot of factors study habit is one of them Considering the importance of ones study habits in academic performance this study was conducted to identify the students study habits and their relationship with academic performance in Abadan School of Nursing Methods : This cross sectional study was conducted on 150 students of Abadan School of Nursing in 2007 Data was collected using Palsane & Sharma Study Habit Inventory questionnaire which was completed in a selfdirected way at the time of holding final exams Results : According to the results of this study the mean score ( ± SD) of the students study habits was 4826 ( ± 116) out of 90 1133 percent of the students had unsatisfactory study habits while 807% and 8% had relatively satisfactory and satisfactory study habits respectively There was a significant week and positive relationship between the students study habits and their academic performance (P=0001 r= 027) There wasnt any significant relationship between study habits and semester age and marital status Conclusion : Generally speaking the students study habits are considered to be moderate that is to say that their study method is not of good quality Considering the importance of study habits in academic performance and achievement planning to improve students study habits and methods and interventions in this regard can be effective
