Background & Objective: Dentistry has been widely acknowledged as being associated with high levels of stress This stress originates in the process of dental education The aim of the present study was to evaluate dental environment stress (DES) in students of the School of Dentistry of Kerman University of Medical Sciences Iran Methods: This crosssectional study was conducted on 165 students Data were collected using the Dental Environment Stress Questionnaire (consisting of 32 items in 6 scales) and demographic information questionnaire Data were analyzed in SPSS software using ttest and ANOVA Pvalue was considered at 5% Results: Of the 165 respondents 533% were women and 782% were single Their mean age was 2363 ± 294 years and mean score was 1605 ± 110 The mean of DES score was 8260 ± 1453 out of a total of 128 In academic factors fear of exam and failure of the course were the most important stressors There was a statistically significant association between mean DES score and gender There was no statistically significant association between mean DES score and marriage status student`s work and priority of field selection Conclusion: The results of the present study were similar to that of previous studies They showed the existence of DES Academic factors were one of the most important stressors

Background & Objective: Clinical training is of great importance in dentistry and has a direct impact on health of the society and treatment of patients The present study was conducted with the aim to obtain students point of views about facilities physical environment and training methods in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology School of Dentistry of Kerman University of Medical Sciences Iran Methods: This descriptive and crosssectional study was conducted on dental students who had had passed at least 1 unit of radiology course The participants were selected through census sampling method The data collection tool was a questionnaire consisting of 28 items in 5 scales and a section on demographic information The 5 scales consisted of evaluation of equipment quality of education in terms of diagnosis skills quality of education in terms of clinical skills practical education on patients and miscellaneous questions The questionnaire was designed by the researchers and its validity and reliability were evaluated Data were analyzed in SPSS software using ttest and analysis of variance (ANOVA) All Pvalues of less than 005 were considered significant Results: Of the 146 respondents 432% were men and 568% were women The mean score of the questionnaire was 7624 ± 1442 from a total of 140 Overall students satisfaction was at a moderate level Students satisfaction level with practical training in different techniques and bone and dental fractures diagnosis using radiography was low In the students view the quantity and quality of radiography devices was inadequate There was no statistically significant association between different inputs in terms of satisfaction and the students gender Conclusion: The students in the present study were relatively satisfied with radiology courses However in their opinion the quantity and quality of radiology devices were low Thus the repairing and updating of the radiography devices is recommended

Background & Objective: Exam anxiety is a significant problem among university students and can be accompanied by a decline in performance and severe psychological problems This study was designed to investigate exam anxiety levels among dental students of Kerman University of Medical Sciences Iran in 2013 Methods: This descriptive crosssectional study was conducted on dental students of Kerman University of Medical Sciences The participants were selected using census method The data collection tool was a questionnaire consisting of the 20item standard Exam Anxiety Questionnaire (Spielberger) demographic characteristics causes of anxiety methods of decreasing exam anxiety and exam method Data were analyzed using SPSS software and linear regression and Student s ttest Results: Of the participants 5657% were men their mean age was 227 ± 218 and 3771% lived with their parents The mean score of the exam anxiety questionnaire was 4729 ± 1057 the maximum score being 80 The first activity during leisure time was exercising (30%) and fear of failure was the first cause of exam anxiety Theoretical final exams were the cause of the exam anxiety in 5490% of participants Seeing friends was the most common method of decreasing anxiety There was no significant correlation between mean exam anxiety score and sex age academic year marriage status and academic performance A significant correlation was observed between area of residence and mean exam anxiety score Conclusion: Based on our findings dental students had varying degrees of exam anxiety Thus we recommend the training of exam anxiety reduction methods during the course of the term by professionals

Background & Objective: Classrooms are suitable environment for transferring teachers experiences to students and gaining a better understanding of educational contents The students absence from theoretical classes has been one of the increasing and most important educational problems in medical universities in recent years This study was performed to determine factors effective on theoretical class attendance according to the point of view of dentistry students of Kerman University of Medical Sciences Iran in 2012 Methods: This crosssectional study was conducted on 150 students of the School of Dentistry Kerman University of Medical Sciences in 2012 Data collection tool was a questionnaire consisting of 2 parts: demographic characteristics and effective factors on theoretical class attendance questionnaire The questionnaire consisted of 20 questions scored based on a 5point Likert scale from very effective to ineffective and scores ranging from 0 to 80 Higher scores indicated more effective factors Data were analyzed by SPSS software through linear regression analysis Values of P < 005 were considered significant Results: Of the 150 participants 587% were female 833% were single and 613% were native students The mean age of the participants was 207 ± 17 years The mean score of the students was 5824 ± 959 A significant statistical relationship was observed between area of residence year of education and sex of students and mean score of questionnaire Among factors effective on theoretical class attendance the highest score belonged to appropriate teaching method teachers scientific proficiency students interest in the related topic However taking part in the class as a duty and active involvement of students had the lowest scores Conclusion: The findings of the present study showed that attendance in classes is affected by factors related to both teachers and students However appropriate teaching method teachers scientific proficiency and students interest in the related topic are the main factors which determine students attendance in the classes

Background & Objective: Adequate time and an organized plan to study have an efficient role in improvement educational performance This study was performed to determine the dental students skills and habits in Kerman dental students Methods: This crosssectional study was conducted on Kerman dental students in 2013 Data were collected by questionnaire in 2 parts demographic characteristics and study skill and habits consist of 24 questions in 6 domains Higher scores indicated more appropriate study skills and habits Results: 481% were males and 519% were females with mean age of 2346 ± 609 years The mean score was 7132 ± 1065 out of 120 There was a significant correlation between the students total mean score (P = 0049) mean of study hours (P = 0033) and studying before class (P = 0050) with the mean score of questionnaire 77% 859% and 64% had good study skills moderate and poor study skills and habits respectively 519% had 24 hours daily study and 468% had 68 hours daily in exams interval Conclusion: Study skills and habits in this study were moderate Teaching study skills can help dental students in better learning and understanding

Background & Objective: Dentistry is a stressful job and dental students are exposed to educational and environmental stresses The aim of this study was to determine the stress level in dental students Methods: This crosssectional study was conducted on students of School of Dentistry Kerman University of Medical Sciences Iran Data were collected by Depression Anxiety and Stress Scales (DASS21) standard questionnaire and analyzed by linear regression and ttest Results: 326% of students had moderate and 43% had severe stress There was no significant differences between sex academic year mean of scores and stress level Married students had more stress (P = 0037) Students staying with their parents had low stress level (P = 0047) In 66% of students the university issues were stressor Conclusion: Based on the result of this study stress level among dental students is fairly high greater attention to this issue is recommended
