Background Community medicine departments play a major role in the education of medical students in order to provide primary health care services. The appropriate quality of education in such departments plays an important role in providing effective services for health promotion of communities. Objectives The current study was aimed to evaluate the quality of educational services at the Community Medicine Department of Kerman University of Medical Sciences from the viewpoint of interns and apprentices. Methods The current cross sectional, descriptive-analytical study was conducted on all medical students that completed their internship or apprenticeship course at the Community Medicine Department of Kerman University of Medical Sciences in 2016 as the study population. Data were collected by the service quality measurement questionnaire (SERVQUAL), and analyzed by Independent test, paired test, and one sample test, as well as Pearson correlation coefficient. Results Of 244 participants in the study, 58.2% (n = 142) were female and 41.8% (n = 102) male, 57% (n = 139) were in the internship and 43% (105) in the apprenticeship courses. From the students' point of view, the mean score of perception in all five dimensions of educational quality was significantly lower than the expectations score, which indicated a negative gap in the quality of educational services in all dimensions (P < 0.001). The greatest quality gap was observed in the responsiveness dimension (- 0.86) and the lowest in the assurance dimension (- 0.59). The utility level of the quality of educational services in the Department of Community Medicine was 84% from the viewpoint of the students. The highest level of utility in the quality of medical services was respectively observed in the dimensions of assurance (86.4%) and empathy (86.1%) and the lowest in responsiveness dimension (79.6%) (P < 0.001). The lowest and highest correlations were respectively observed between tangibles and assurance (r = 0.486) and between empathy and assurance (r = 0.708) dimensions. Conclusions In all five dimensions of the quality of educational services, there were negative gap that required planning for quality improvement. Issues such as modifying educational contents and tailoring training to future jobs, modifying educational methods, increasing the contribution of students to educational planning, and updating educational facilities should be considered more urgently in the education quality promotion programs.

Context Evaluation of different education systems or approaches can help improve educational quality. To implement a program successfully, it is essential to examine the curricula of leading countries from different aspects. The present study aimed at comparing the bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) programs at nursing schools of McMaster in Canada, Hacettepe of Turkey, and Tehran (Iran). Evidence Acquisition The current descriptive-comparative study was performed in 2016 using the Brody method; the BSN programs were compared among Nursing School of Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Iran, Faculty of Nursing at Hacettepe University of Turkey, and McMaster School of Nursing in Canada. Results In the BSN program curricula of Tehran and Hacettepe universities, no correlation was found between contents and educational goals (theoretical and clinical), while a significant conformity was found between the theoretical and clinical goals of courses offered in the BSN curriculum of McMaster University. The ability to transfer leadership, management, communication, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills were formally ignored in the BSN curriculum of University of Tehran, while the mentors act just as a role model. There were programs and workshops for practicing critical thinking in Hecettepe University, while the evidence-based nursing and research in nursing were stressed in educational goals; the points disregarded in the curriculum of the BSN program of the University of Tehran. Conclusions It seems that the School of Nursing and Midwifery of Tehran University of Medical Sciences should reconsider educational goals and content and pay more attention to issues such as problem solving, critical thinking, clinical judgment, and efficient leadership skills, as well as creativity and innovation.

Background and Objectives Thoughts and behaviors of university students are influenced by their expectations from the university and their perception of the university environment. If these expectations are not met, they may even consider quitting the university. The current study evaluated the relationship between students’ attitude toward the university and academic burnout, and examined the mediating role of academic procrastination. Methods The current cross sectional study was conducted on 384 students of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences and Islamic Azad University, Sari Branch, who were selected using stratified random sampling based on the location of the university. The sample size was determined based on the specific population of the community. Data were collected using a standardized questionnaire on students’ attitude toward the university developed by Weinstein et al., which assessed their perception, expectations, emotions, and knowledge (PEEK). Additionally, the academic procrastination scale developed by Sevari, and the academic burnout questionnaire by Breso et al. were used. Data were analyzed using the independent t test, correlation coefficient test, and the path analysis method using repeated-measure regression models. Results A significant correlation was observed between the students’ attitudes toward the university and their academic procrastination (r = 0.298) and academic burnout (r = 0.491). There was significant relationship between the students’ attitudes toward the university and their academic burnout mediated by two dimensions of procrastination: intentional and mental and physical fatigue (P value < 0.05). Further, a comparison of the studied variables between the students of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences and Islamic Azad University, Sari Branch, indicated significant differences in the students’ academic and personal aspects, in their attitude toward the university, and in their academic failure component as a factor of academic burnout; but no significant difference was observed regarding the other studied variables. Conclusions To promote the academic performance and psychological well-being of students, more attention should be paid to improving their attitudes toward the university in order to reduce and avoid academic procrastination and burnout.
