Background: Nowadays, several studies have been performed on the factors affecting the effectiveness of virtual education. One of the characteristics of learners is their different learning styles.Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between learning style and the level of satisfaction and usage of e-learning facilities in medical students.Methods: This cross-sectional and retrospective (ex post facto) study was performed among medical, public health, and operating room students of Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences in 2017. We redesigned their courses to be delivered in the blended method, so that teachers used a Learning Management System (LMS) in addition to traditional teaching. Information about learning styles was collected using Kolb’s questionnaire, satisfaction level evaluated with a researcher made questionnaire and use of e-learning was examined by checking system loggings. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, Tukey’s post hoc, Welch’s ANOVA and X2 tests in SPSS software.Results: Students’ satisfaction with e-content in diverging learning style was higher (P = 0.032), but there was no significant relationship between learning style and demographic characteristics and total average mark. Also, there was no significant difference in the amount of using e-learning facilities between different learning style groups (P = 0.256).Conclusion: It seems that using virtual learning facilities and considering the type of learning style in students can increase their satisfaction.

Background: There was a challenge for teaching hospitals to accept residents for educational goals due to their training costs.Objectives: The present study aimed to estimate the actual costs of residency training in hospitals for policymaking, budgetary impact, and negotiation.Methods: This retrospective study was performed in eight teaching hospitals affiliated with the Iran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran, in 2018. Two scenarios were designed to estimate the costs of education per resident. All of the resources used by residents in the hospitals were identified. Cost items attributed to the training goals were allocated to the internal medicine and surgical fields; however, for cost items that were used for treatment and education, such as disposables and consumables and equipment, the cost drivers were used. Therefore, the difference between the scenarios was related to the cost drivers.Results: Overall, the selected hospitals had spent $ 586,720.35 and $ 572,358.10 based on scenarios 1 and 2, respectively. The residency training per surgical resident in the hospitals was about 1.2 times higher than an internal medicine resident. Surgery, neurology, urology, and anesthesiology were the fields with the highest costs in the hospitals.Conclusion: Although residency training accounts for a large proportion of hospital costs, employing residents reduces the costs of human resources. Monitoring and controlling costs, as well as resource quotas for resident training, can be a way to reduce educational course costs in hospitals. Universities can cover some parts of the educational costs to motivate hospitals to make an appropriate setting for residents.

Background and Objective: Scholarship is of such a great importance that even the developed countries pay special attention to it while in developing countries it has been left unattended and there is no appropriate management to benefit from the its advantages For this scholarship has to be considered more seriously in the planning system of the country in order to achieve the highest yield beside all expenses Methods: Using registered documents as one of the best information sources 366 students awarded scholarship between19972003 were enrolled into the study Students personal information at the time of going abroad scholarship granted university local university and students major and duration of study were considered as useful information and excluded carefully from electronic and paper documents under the cooperation of the scholarship office of Ministry of Health and Medical Education Results: Most of the students were studying in European countries (697%) and Australian and Oceania universities (126%) The average duration of study was (±046) 407 years for PhD and (± 054)512 years for clinical specialty candidates showing a significant difference between the two groups (P‹ 0001) However the noticeable point is that nonreturning rate has been more than average for students who have received scholarship from those universities and also the ministry while scholarship holders from level three universities were successful in science generating Conclusion: The highest number of awarded scholarships belonged to the large universities in the country and based on the available information it is difficult to judge whether scholarship awarding has been distributed fairly among universities or not

Background & Objective : Improving social and cultural status of faculty members is among the main universities duties aimed to encourage them to improve society knowledge and culture All faculties in a university are not active and effective in the same way This study was done to determine the selection criteria and the ways to appreciate the pioneer faculty members in order to initiate a reverence strategy for them Methods : In this crosssectional study a researchermade questionnaire was distributed among all the official faculty members in Kerman University of Medical Sciences after its validity and reliability were confirmed This questionnaire consisted of demographic features and fifteen 4Likertscale statements to select pioneers and 11 statements to determine the reverence strategies Results : The response rate was 66% Thirty six percent of faculty members were instructors 48% assistant 10% associate and 6% were full professors Among the pioneer selection criteria the highest mean score belonged to “goodreputation and standard morality” and “having international publications” In contrast the lowest score belonged to “age” and “executive experiences” “Consulting pioneers about the current affairs and engaging them” and “inviting them to participate in meetings” were suggested as the best reverence ways “providing facilities” and “fixing photographs and biographies on walls” were of the lowest importance Conclusion : In spite of the general concept of pioneer in which establishment and organizing are significant the faculty members preferred ethical and research criteria Financial facilities and earning reputation found the lowest importance among the reverence ways while respecting and consulting them about the university affairs were suggested as the best ways This shows the self confidence and high sociocultural status of teachers which necessitates more attempts in symbolizing and improving their status

Background & Objective : An educational council one of the most important parts of each university plays the main role in solving students educational problems This study was aimed to analyze the students educational problems in Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences according to the councils minutes from 2002 to 2005 Methods : In this study 333 cases of the students educational problems were extracted from the minutes of 66 educational councils meetings during a period of four years They were analyzed according to the students study field level turn (morning or evening courses) sex and the state of being native Results : Among all request for omitting a course educational leave and registering a course were the most frequent problems Non native students educational problems were more than native ones (68% and 43% respectively) and males problems (98%) were more than females (38%) (p=00001) Educational problems among students of medicine (84%) radiology (76%) and field of fighting against diseases (59%) were more frequent than others The difference between the frequency of problems in the students attending morning classes (53%) and those attending evening classes (52%) was not significant Conclusion : This study revealed that the students educational problems were different in various study fields There were significantly more problems in male and non native students (who are less supported by the families) compared to female and native ones Family financial and health problems lack of enough knowledge among students and tutors about educational rules stood amongst the most important factors leading to the students educational problems

Background: Training Patients is one of the fundamental principles of nursing profession Nurses have to do this training task in order to provide patients satisfaction speed up patients recovery and reduce rate of readmission Objective: To determine training performance of nurses working in Kerman University of Medical Sciences from the point of view patients discharging from Medical – Surgical wards in 2006 Methods: In this descriptive analytic study the sample size base on a pilot study was determined 396 patients and subjects were selected consecutivly A researcher – made questionnaire was used to collect data The questionnaire included two parts of demographic features and evaluating training performance of nurses in 6 domains Data were analyzed by using central and distributional indices and Mann – Withny U kruskal Wallis Freedman tests and Spearman coefficient correlation Results: According to the results the majority of samples were males (62/1%) married (66/4) over 50 years of age (30/55%) illiterate (3055%) and with no history of previous hospitalization (40/7%) In regard to the performance of nurses in training patients the results showed that in the domains of disease nature 19% disease complications 23% medicines 43% physical activity 3207% nutrition 428% and other items 413% had received complete or relative training considering nurses total training performance score based on demographic features of patients significant differences were observed in terms of sex hospital and educational level ) P < 0/05) That is nurses training performance score was higher from the point of view of female patients patients with higher educational levels and patients in hospital C comparing to male patients patients with lower educational levels and patients in hospitals other than hospital C Conclusion : The obtained percentages for nurses performance in training patients show their poor performance in this regard Therefore improving nurses knowledge about the importance of training patients is highly recommended

Background & Objective: Education is one of the most basic necessities of human communities and an important base of continuous development Variation in teaching methods is an obvious need in our complicated world and selecting the most appropriate teaching method is the key issue at every stage of learning process The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of two teaching methods of group discussion and lecturing on the learning rate of the students of Laboratory Medicine in Medical Parasitology and Mycology course in Yazd Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences and Health Services during the academic year of 2005006 Methods: This semiexperiential study carried out on 50 students of Laboratory Medicine selected by purposive sampling method The students divided into two groups matched for age sex and average scores of their last two semesters One group was taught by using group discussion method and the other group by the traditional lecturing method for 8 sessions each lasting 30 minutes Data collection was done by a questionnaire including demographic information and 50 questions of Medical Parasitology and Mycology given to the subject as class quizzes midterm exam final exam and a test one month after the instruction sessions (25 questions were on taxonomy I 15 ones on taxonomy II and 10 questions on taxonomy III) Results: From 50 students 30 ones (60%) were female and 20 ones (40%) were male According to the findings both methods increased the level of knowledge significantly but this increase was more in discussion group comparing to the lecture group (P=0/002 and P=0/003) Conclusion: The research findings show a higher rate of learning for group discussion method that is due to the more efficacy of this method in promoting intergroup relations brainstorming groupactivity group assimilation and elevating level of judgment and analytic ability Therefore this teaching method is suggested especially for teaching Medical Parasitology and Mycology

Background: COVID-19 crisis has created special educational conditions. This challenge has brought about changes in students’ academic lifestyles.Objectives: We aimed to conduct a qualitative study on the students’ academic lifestyle and quality during the COVID-19 crisis.Methods: This is a qualitative method with a phenomenological analysis. The research was conducted within the framework of logic sampling on 50 students with a phenomenological approach to Medical, Health, and Laboratory Sciences students. It was purposeful. Students were asked to describe the style and quality of their academic life in the form of expression of experience during their COVID-19 crisis and quarantine, and then the analysis of the students’ written work was performed using Colaizzi’s seven-step process. Four-dimension criteria were also considered to assess rigor of qualitative research (credibility, dependability, conformability, and transferability).Results: Of 64 codes obtained in the research, five themes and 11 sub-themes emerged. Themes included items such as 1) unknown stress and anxiety, vague future and professional problem, 2) cognitive burden (information literacy, bulk contents, need for self-paced, and need for mastery), 3) interests (following interest and compensation process), 4) skills (self-regulation, self-direction, and time management), and 5) security (available content, exercise, and practice).Conclusion: According to the results, it can be stated that changing the academic lifestyle can provide improved personal skills and information literacy, but changing the academic lifestyle in a negative direction with cognitive burden and fear of the unknown has created many problems in the process of this lifestyle.

Background & Objective: It is necessary for a correct evaluation to use valid instruments prepared exactly according to the study population and special field This study aimed to determine valid and reliable criteria for clinical evaluation of nursing teacher in Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences Iran Methods: In this exploratorydescriptive study reviewing different sites and literature primary clinical evaluation form with 60 items based on the Likert scale was designed Face validity of the instrument was determined based on students teachers and nursing and educating professors opinions and content validity was determined based on Waltz and Bausell index Construct validity was determined by factor analysis Also reliability of instrument was determined by Cronbachs alpha coefficient splithalf coefficient and testretest Results: Factor analysis to determine construct validity created two factors: educational behaviors factor with 21 phrases factor coefficient of 06330788 and eigenvalues of 20059 and supportive behaviors factor with 6 phrases factor coefficient of 06290799 and eigenvalues of 1915 Cronbachs alpha coefficient of clinical evaluation instrument was 095 totally 096 for factor 1 and 085 for factor 2 Splithalf coefficient was 081 and total Pearson correlation coefficient was 077 (P > 0001) Pearson correlation coefficient of answers to final question what do you evaluate your teacher finally? was 081 for factor 1 (P > 0001) and 072 for factor 2 (P > 0001) Conclusion: Our instrument for clinical evaluation of nursing teachers (student form) was designed with two factors: educational behaviors factor with 21 phrases and suportive behaviors factor with 6 phrases and had a high degree of validity and reliability We suggest this instrument can be used for clinical evaluation of nursing teachers in Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences

Background & Objective: Anxiety is a feeling of apprehension caused by the feeling of being at risk and can affect the performance of an individual Today exam anxiety is increasingly observed among educated people and this situation causes a loss of concentration Faith increases confidence and patience and strength to deal with problems The aim of this study was to assess the effect of recitation of the Quran on exam anxiety in nursing and emergency medicine students Methods: This was a quasiexperimental study performed on nursing and emergency medicine students of Borujen School of Medical Emergency Nursing Iran The purposive sampling method was used in the present study and all students participated in this study The courses presented during one semester for each field of study were randomly divided into two groups An audio of Maryam Surah verses 1 to 26 were played for one group before the midterm exams and the other group before the end of term exams for 5 minutes Data collection was performed using a demographic questionnaire and Spielbergers StateTrait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) before all exams Data analysis was performed using descriptive and analytic statistics (such as independent ttest and paired ttest) in SPSS software Results: The results of this study showed that the mean levels of apparent anxiety in nursing students during exams without Quran recitation was 4873 ± 1352 and during exams with Quran recitation was 4472 ± 1526 The average level of hidden anxiety during exams without Quran recitation was 4333 ± 961 and in exams with Quran recitation was 4136 ± 1199 A statistically significant difference was observed among these averages (P < 005) The mean levels of apparent anxiety in emergency medicine students during exams without Quran recitation was 41 ± 1298 and during exams with Quran recitation was 3911 ± 1182 The average level of hidden anxiety during exams without Quran recitation was 4133 ± 878 and during exams with Quran recitation was 3846 ± 1101 A statistically significant difference was observed among these averages (P < 005) Conclusion: The results showed that the sound of the Quran before exams can reduce students anxiety levels Therefore it is recommended that managers and policy makers consider the results of this study and play audios of the Quran before exams in order to reduce stress but also take steps to promote familiarity with the Quran

Background & Objectives: In order to improve the quality of teaching attention to the students academic progress is important In the present study the internal consistency of students scores has been used as an index for the evaluation of the validity of course exams Methods: All scores of Pharmacy students graduated in 2007 and 2008 were collected from the of Kerman University of Medical Sciences We computed the Pearson correlation coefficient (r) between course scores and grade point average (GPA) In addition coefficients between the mean score in subgroups of courses with GPA were computed Results : In most courses the correlation coefficient between the course score and GPA was in the range of 04 to 06 The lowest correlation coefficients belonged to sport course (004) and thesis (033) while the highest were for theoretical biochemistry (078) and practical chemistry (076) The correlation coefficient of male students scores was 049 and that of female students was 040 that shows significant difference (p < 001) In whole the scores of basic courses showed higher correlation compared to general and special courses The correlations in theoretical and practical courses were equal Conclusion: It seems that this convenient method for investigating the internal consistency of course scores can be used as an index for validity of corse scores Significant difference in correlation coefficients among different courses requires special attention to some courses for investigating the probable testing errors even though in most courses the coefficients were in the acceptable range

Background & Objective: Portfolio is useful as a learning method and an evaluating scale The goal of this survey was to study the effect of portfolio based evaluation on the accuracy of clinical evaluation of nursing students during their internship in Arak University of Medical Sciences Arak Iran Methods: This educational trial was conducted on all senior nursing students (n = 30) of Arak University of Medical Sciences Their clinical learning was evaluated by routine (first two weeks) and portfolio evaluation (last two weeks) All data were analyzed with SPSS version 17 Results: Mean age of students (14 boys and 16 girls) was 227 ± 12 years Mean of scores given by the instructor based on routine (194) and portfolio methods (165) in nursing management internship course had a significant difference (3 scores) (P = 00001) Moreover mean of scores given by the instructor based on routine (1911) and portfolio methods (163) in the internal internship course had a significant difference (3 scores) (P = 00001) Mean scores of students opinions about effective learning in internal wards with routine and portfolio methods had a significant difference (P ≤ 0001) Conclusion: Scores based on routine evaluation forms cannot be real since they are subjective not objective However scores based on portfolios are more real In spite of some limitations portfolio is applicable and userfriendly in clinical fields Therefore it is recommended for promoting learning levels and evaluating students clinical learning

Background & Objective: Having employees with appropriate environmental behaviors and paying attention to their environmental knowledge and training is an important issue especially for industrial companies However the lack of prioritization of this important issue is one of the effective factors in the declining trend of environmental performance improvement of industrial companies Therefore the main purpose of the present study was to evaluate the environmental knowledge of physicians and nurses working at ParseJonoubi Company Iran and propose appropriate methods for their environmental training Methods: This research was a descriptive survey The statistical population included all physicians and nurses working at ParseJonoubi Company from among which 135 individuals were selected through random stratified sampling method and based on the Morgan Table The data collection tool was a researchermade environmental knowledge questionnaire based on the view of Frick et al Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics t independent t Friedman and chisquare tests Results: The knowledge of physicians and nurses in their own view regarding environmental systems was near average (31 and 33 respectively) Physicians and nurses knowledge on environmental action was near average (32) and below average (26) respectively Their knowledge of effectiveness was higher than average (physicians: 38 nurses: 43) Generally physicians estimated their environmental knowledge as slightly higher than average (36) and nurses as nearly average (32) Moreover there was a significant difference between the average of the three aforementioned dimensions of their environmental knowledge and the criterion average In addition there was a significant difference between the average of the three dimensions of environmental knowledge of physicians and nurses They also ranked environmental training methods differently Descriptive statistics and chisquared test showed that 76 subjects (61%) preferred the compulsive environmental training method and 48 subjects (39%) preferred the optional method Conclusion: The results of this research indicated that physicians and nurses working at ParseJonoubi Company felt the need for obtaining generally more environmental knowledge and specifically more actionrelated knowledge Thus it is suggested that the necessary requirements be provided for the environmental training of physicians and nurses working at this company according to each groups preferred training method

Background: Child maltreatment is not a new phenomenon and all communities have always been involved with various types of this problem Physicians being in the front line of diagnosis of child maltreatment should have adequate knowledge in this regard Objective: To determine knowledge of interns in Kerman Medical Sciences University about child maltreatment Methods: A total of 86 interns participated in this cross sectional study and data gathering was done by a semi structured questionnaire developed according to valid sources of child maltreatment in the literature The questionnaires reliability and validity were assessed (a=085) Based on the percentage of correct answers the level of knowledge was classified as good (>75%) moderate (5075%) and poor (< 50%) Chi square test was used to determine the relationship between knowledge and considered variables Results: Mean knowledge score was 283 (SD=±48) Half of the interns had good knowledge and the other half had not adequate knowledge Interns knowledge about risk factors of child maltreatment was moderate In regard to the symptoms of child maltreatment observable physical signs such as burning or fractures were being considered as the evidence of child maltreatment while psychological signs or those related to sexual abuse were not taken serious None of the demographic features had significant relation with knowledge level of interns Half of the participants had obtained their knowledge during their medical courses Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that interns do not have adequate knowledge toward child maltreatment and considering the similarity of medical education in our country planning educational programs to improve knowledge of Medical students and other health care providers in regard to child maltreatment seems to be highly required

Background: Health behaviors refer to activities done for maintaining supporting and improving individual health status regardless of actual or present health status There are some evidences showing direct relationship between health behavior and educational success Objective: This study was done to determine the relationship between selfesteem and selfefficacy with health behaviors among students of Yazd Shahid Sadooghi University of Medical SciencesMethods: This correlational study was performed on 309 students selected by stratified random sampling Data gathering was done by using a questionnaire that its validity and reliability had been approved respectively by experts and calculating kronbachsalpha coefficient (078 for selfesteem 87% for selfefficacy and 074 for health behavior) Results: According to the results students got 607% of the selfesteem score 623% of the selfefficacy score and 748% of the health behavior score Health behavior showed significant relationship with selfesteem (r= 014 P=0013) and selfefficacy (r= 031 P=0000) Regression analysis showed that age sex family size selfesteem and selfefficacy all together explain 159% of health behaviors variance and among them selfefficacy was the most important predicting factorConclusion: Health behavior in studied students was favorable in general but it was poor in regard to physical activity Since the results of this study showed the relationship of selfesteem and self efficacy with health behaviors and role of these factors on educational success planning for improving selfesteem self efficacy and consequently health behaviors are recommended

Background: Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) is considered as proper reply to the rapid changes in health care delivery and promoting professional standards of current practice among the nurses It is an active process that can take place through a variety of activities such as reading the professional journals or textbooks listening to the lectures or observing other nurses practicing Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the nurses opinion about continuing nursing education and to determine the educational resources as well as nurses educational needs Methods: This descriptive crosssectional study was conducted in the teaching hospitals in Kermanshah For data collection a questionnaire based on five item likert scale was distributed among one hundred nurses who participated in this study Results: 37% of the participants were male and 63% were female and their mean age was 3415 years old They experienced nursing for more than ten years (1097) 36% of them were single and 64% were married “To improve patient care” was considered as the most important factor to take part in continuing education programs ( =389) “Obstacles to participation” indicated similar importance with a low difference (the lowest mean=319 and the highest mean=339) “Disease process” was mentioned as the most important field requiring continuing education ( =31) Conclusion: Continuing education should play an important role in nursing To increase nurses motivation and decrease the obstacles we recommend increasing the personnel number decreasing workload considering workshop participation as factors of job improvement and allocating special times to education

Background & Objective : Passing through intrauterine phase to the extra uterine world is probably the most risky event in everybodys life About 1% of them need advanced cardiac life support to continue life By implementing professional methods of resuscitation the prognosis will improve more than one million neonatal deaths annually This study was designed to assess the effect of education on midwifery students neonatal resuscitation knowledge and skill Methods : In this interventional (pretest and posttest design) study 81 midwifery students participated The data was collected using a questionnaire for assessing knowledge and a check list for skill evaluation The validity and reliability of the questionnaire and the check list were approved before data collection Results : Our findings showed that all students level of knowledge was weak to moderate before education while it turned into good after education Mean knowledge score before education was 2446 which increased to 2934 after education Skill related mean score before and after education was 1383 and 9175 respectively Comparison between knowledge and skill related scores showed significant difference before and after education (p=0003 and p=00001 respectively) Conclusion : Midwifery students knowledge and skill in neonatal resuscitation was low before education and there was a significant difference in mentioned items before and after education Considering the effect of resuscitation in decreasing neonatal death index implementation of scientific and practical education using developed techniques and tools is necessary

Background & Objective : Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) are the commonest form of exams in medical education which are highly reliable however their structural and content validity taxonomy and structural principles have always been considered by researchers This study was designed to evaluate quality of MCQs in the school medicine Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences regarding taxonomy and structural principles Methods : In this descriptive study all MCQs of written exams held during a whole semester in the school of medical in Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences were evaluated All questions were assessed according to taxonomy (in three levels of recall comprehension and application) and structure using a checklist which was based on Millmans principles for designing stem and choices of questions Results : Among 1478 questions related to 25 exams questions related to lessons of basic sciences physiopathology and clerkship were 287% 187% 526% respectively 774 percent of questions were in Taxonomy I and the rest were designed in Taxonomy II and III 46 percent of all questions had no structural problems while the rest had one or more structural problems Taxonomy and structural problems in exams related to clerkship and physiopathology were significantly less than basic science lessons (p=0023 and p=0001 respectively) Questions of higher taxonomy had less structural problems Conclusion : Our present study showed that the quality of MCQs regarding structural principles and taxonomy were different in exams of different levels which necessitate further revisions

Background & Objective : Uncivil behavior strongly disturbs teachinglearning process by creating conflicts and tension in studentteacher relationships The aim of this study was to study the attitudes of students and faculty members of Golestan University toward uncivil behavior in educational settings Methods : In this analytical descriptive study 50 faculty members and 150 Medical students of Golestan University of Medical Sciences selected by convenience sampling were asked to complete a valid and reliable questionnaire about disruptive and threatening uncivil behavior Results : In whole 23% of faculty members had never observed uncivil and 56% of them had never observed threatening behavior in their students during the last year Among students 302% had never observed uncivil behavior in their teachers during the last year The relationships between faculty members perspective and variables of age and work experience were significant (P=005) Conclusion : Although in this study the frequency and severity of uncivil behavior were not considerable however due to the harmful outcome of them applying strategies to create safe teaching learning environments is highly necessary
